Team In Class Meeting 9/3/13

Step 1:

       Possible Barriers

·         Finding grad students who want to participate;

o   Solution: send out via email

·         Is it limited to just Clemson?

·         Would people use it? Personal things incorporated into solution

·         There are unique problems for different universities; Reach out if we have contacts; Miss out on a lot of community events due to Grad School

Solution ideas:

·         Questionnaire website (self stress test meter)

o   Is it good to tell them they’re stress? It depends on the individual (determine through interviews)

·         If stress is too high: soothing music, relaxation techniques

·         Suggest them to pick up their hobbies, something non-academic (games)

·         Time management incorporation for all procrastinators

·         App and/or website

·         Link to non-stressful graduate things going on in the community

·

Step 2: Plan your Research Methods

1.       Learn from Individuals in the Community

·         psychology students

·         microbiology students

·         HCC students

·         Grad students overall (including the Grad Student Gov’t Association

·         Bartender at Nick’s

·         Students from different cultural universities (students from an majority black institution)

·         Faculty

·         Survey? Need IRB?

2.       Learn from Experts Near and Far

·         CAPS

·         Nutritionist (eating disorders)

 *Random thoughts

·         Need IRB for Survey?

·         Brian has access to digital recorders

Step 3: Build your question guide

·         Need enough questions to get enough usable information; don’t want to bore the participants

·         Limit to 15 or less questions

·         Different sets for different people? General questions for all?

·         Include in demographic: Academic background

·         Need finding: (gender, level of education, financial assistance, RA vs TA)parameters will impact

our design

·         App: user enters their preferences to more customize their experience

·         Form a set of question in Google Doc
